# ICP.md — Potatocore (personal brand) · Jack Renner *(the scrappy operator)*

> **SIMULATION — profile content is derived fiction, generated from the locked
> fears and passions. A staging of a hypothesis, not customer evidence.**
> Nothing in this document may ever be fed into a customer-blueprint
> voice-of-customer section as evidence.

Staged **2026-08-18** from Brett's direct description (so F1 and P1 are
`answered`, not invented). Namesake: **J.R. "Jack" Simplot, before the
dominance** — a scrappy operator, not yet an empire. This file is the SSOT;
the pages (`facebook.html`, `dm.html`) render it. When they disagree, the
pages are wrong.

**Jack is the PRIMARY persona** — the core paying relationship Potatocore is
built to earn. All six videos are written to build rapport with Jack.

---

## 1. The persona

**Jack Renner — the scrappy operator who's already winning and can feel the
ground shifting.** 35–45, owns *Renner & Co.*, a ~16-person regional
commercial-services firm he built pre-AI's takeoff. Profitable. Not scared —
*comfortable*. That comfort is the whole problem.

One-liner: *he built a business that works, and he's just started to wonder
whether "works" will still be true in five years.*

**Disposition (pipeline axis):** `measured` — a willing mover who will not be
rushed. He moves when the step is proven and reversible; the steady hand is
why he stays. (answered — Brett: "they should be comfortable moving relatively
slowly.")

**AI barometer:** `wary-but-open`. He doesn't hate AI and he's not a skeptic —
he distrusts *hype* and *lock-in*. He'll adopt what's proven, reversible, and
doesn't hand his business to a vendor. Honesty about what a tool can't do earns
him faster than a demo of what it can.

## 2. The engine — fears and passions (locked)

### Fears (ranked)

| ID | Rank | Fear | Provenance |
|----|------|------|------------|
| F1 | 1 | Getting **priced out / caught off guard** — a competitor leans hard into AI, undercuts him or out-serves him, and he finds out too late. Underneath it: becoming **too legacy to compete**, the guy who ran a good business right up until it stopped being enough. | **answered** — Brett, 2026-08-18 |
| F2 | 2 | **Vendor lock-in** — betting the business on the wrong platform/tool and being trapped in it; a dependency he can't walk back. | **answered** — Brett: "we don't want them to get too locked in to a vendor." |
| F3 | 3 | **Breaking what works** — moving too fast on something unproven and damaging a stable, profitable operation. The mirror of F1: the same instinct that keeps him safe now is what could make him legacy later. | derived-PROPOSED |

### Passions (ranked)

| ID | Rank | Passion | Provenance |
|----|------|---------|------------|
| P1 | 1 | **Gradual progress, consistency, and a long-term relationship.** Steadiness over scramble. He wants a trusted person he keeps around for years, not a project and a goodbye. | **answered** — Brett, 2026-08-18 |
| P2 | 2 | **The business he built** — genuine pride in a stable, profitable operation and the craft of his trade. He's not chasing a unicorn; he's tending something real. | derived-PROPOSED |
| P3 | 3 | **Being the one who lasts** — longevity, not hype. The tortoise's quiet confidence: still here in 30 years because he didn't bet the farm on a fad. | derived-PROPOSED |

**Ethics (binding):** the engine leverages passions to serve; it **never
weaponizes fears**. F1 is met by *widening his time horizon* (36–60 months),
not by scaring him into a purchase. No urgency mechanics, no "act now or die."
The soft ask — "you can move slowly; you just can't move blind" — is the whole
posture. No artifact may deepen a fear to provoke a decision.

---

## 3. Platform ranking

| Rank | App (archetype) | Page | Handle | Facet |
|------|-----------------|------|--------|-------|
| 1 · **PRIMARY** | Homestead (friends-feed) | `facebook.html` | Jack Renner · Renner & Co. | **The established operator among his peers.** Local/industry Groups; the "we've done it this way 15 years" room; where F1 first flickers. |
| 2 | Signal (direct thread) | `dm.html` | jack@rennerco | **Where the relationship begins.** The email/DM exchange from "saw your video" to a booked consult — the soft, no-lock-in ask in action. |

Homestead is where Jack lives publicly; Signal is where Potatocore earns him.

## 4. Page contents (the record; chips inline)

### facebook.html — Homestead (PRIMARY)

**Bio:** "Owner, Renner & Co. — commercial grounds & mechanical, [region] since
2011. 16 on the crew and every one of them shows up. Here for the trade
groups and the occasional argument about trucks." ⇢ P2+P3

**Groups (rail):** Regional Contractors & Trades · Small Business Owners
[Metro] · Fleet & Equipment Swap · Commercial Services Roundtable. ⇢ P1+P2

**The feed — an operator watching the ground shift (chips inline):**

- **The pricing scare (⇢ F1):** a competitor two towns over "just quoted a job
at a number I can't hit — turns out they're running the estimates and the
scheduling through some AI setup. First time in fifteen years I felt slow."
  Comments: a peer says "same thing happened to me on a bid last month";
another, "what even is that, is it worth it or is it hype." ⇢ F1+F3
- **The hype allergy (⇢ F2):** "Every vendor at the expo is 'AI-powered' now.
Half of them can't tell me what happens to my data or how I leave if it
stinks. Hard pass on getting married to a black box." ⇢ F2
- **The steady flex (⇢ P1+P3):** "20-year customer renewed today. That's the
whole game. I don't need to be the biggest, I need to still be here." ⇢ P3
- **The quiet worry, said plainly (⇢ F1+P2):** "Business is good. That's
exactly when I get nervous. Good is a snapshot; I want to know it's good in
five years too." ⇢ F1+P2 *(this is the line Potatocore's video answers)*
- **Life event — 15 years in business (⇢ P2+P3):** "Renner & Co. turns 15 this
month. Built it one honest job at a time." Comments from crew and customers.
- **The find (⇢ P1):** "A guy I trust pointed me at this Potatocore channel —
no pitch, just 'here's what's actually coming and here's how to not panic
about it.' Watched three. Booked a call. We'll see." ⇢ P1+F1

### dm.html — Signal (the consult thread)

The exchange from first contact to booked consult. Jack opens wary ("not
looking to be sold a platform"); the reply meets him where he is — no lock-in,
reversible steps, a 36–60-month lens, move at his pace. Ends with a booked
time, not a hard close. Every message chipped to F1/F2/P1. ⇢ P1+F2

---

## 5. Three voices

- **Self (the trade-show edit):** "I run a commercial-services company. Sixteen
people, been at it since '11, we're profitable and I sleep fine. ⇢ P2 I'm not
an AI guy and I'm not going to pretend to be. But I'm not stupid either — the
ground's moving and I'd rather have someone in my corner who'll tell me
straight what to do about it and what to ignore. ⇢ P1+F1"
- **Peers (composite):** "Jack's the one who actually built something and kept
it. He's careful — maybe too careful — but when he moves, it holds. He's
started asking questions about this AI stuff that the rest of us are
  pretending we understand." ⇢ P3+F1
- **Would-be vendors:** "Impossible to upsell. Wants to know how he *leaves*
before he'll talk about how he starts. Asks what it costs to walk away."
  ⇢ F2

---

## 6. Traffic map — where he is, and how he moves

| Channel | Mode | Weight | Derives | Staged as |
|---------|------|--------|---------|-----------|
| Homestead (Facebook + Groups) | Lurk + occasional post; trade talk, peer proof | 0.55 | F1, P1, P2 | `facebook.html` |
| YouTube (Potatocore videos) | Watch — the funnel top; rapport + friction | 0.25 | F1, P1 | *(the videos themselves)* |
| Email / direct thread | The relationship: inquiry → consult → retainer | 0.15 | P1, F2 | `dm.html` |
| Light LinkedIn | Rare; checks a person out before trusting them | 0.05 | F2 | — |

No weighted channel lacks staged evidence (LinkedIn is <10%, noted not staged).

## 7. Conversion logic

Trigger chain, in order:

1. **The reframe lands** — a Potatocore video widens his horizon: coasting
6–12 months is fine; *coasting 36–60 months is the trap.* Friction, not
   fear. ⇢ F1
2. **Rapport through respect** — the video doesn't sell the fear or push a
tool; it honors his pace ("move slowly, just not blind"). He feels seen.
   ⇢ P1
3. **The receipts** — he checks Brett out and finds a working method and
shipped artifacts, not a hype reel. ⇢ P1+P3
4. **The no-lock-in ask** — booking a consult costs him nothing and traps him
in nothing; reversible by design. ⇢ F2
5. **The retainer** — it resolves as a steady, long-term relationship with
   ad-hoc force-multiplier help, not a scary one-time project. ⇢ P1

**Guardrail:** F1 is answered by *time-horizon widening and a steady hand*,
never leveraged by urgency. F2 is answered by *reversibility and vendor
neutrality* as a standing promise. No countdown, no fear-baiting.

## 8. Product map — the consulting ladder

Potatocore = a YouTube funnel that creates consultation relationships. Jack's
lane is the **retainer**.

| Product | Status | Tier | Addresses | How |
|---------|--------|------|-----------|-----|
| The video series (YouTube) | live · free | free | F1, P1 | Reframes the 36–60-month picture and builds rapport; the top of the funnel. Never sells the fear. |
| The consult (strategy session) | live | entry | F1, P1 | A paid session: where his business actually stands vs. where compute is going, and the two or three reversible moves that matter. The front door to the retainer. |
| **Retainer + ad-hoc developments** | live | **core / recurring** | P1, F2, F1 | **His lane.** A steady relationship: force-multiplier services, low-maintenance builds, a strategist in his corner across years — no vendor lock, reversible steps. |
| Larger contracts | occasional | high | F1, P2 | When a bigger build is genuinely warranted; the exception, not the base. The retainer is the spine. |

### GAP — rendered loudly

- **Proof-of-longevity for a wary operator.** Jack converts on *receipts*, but
a new consultant's sharpest missing asset is a track record he can check —
named outcomes for operators like him. Until case studies exist, the videos
and the method carry the whole burden of trust. Sharpest commercial question
  standing.
- **Note (not a gap):** F2 is answered by *posture* — vendor neutrality and
reversibility are a standing constraint on every engagement, not a SKU.

---

## 9. Cohort (estimate — never telemetry)

- **Scope:** global · **Baseline:** 5,000,000 · **asOf:** 2026-08-18 ·
  **dailyRatePct:** 0.02
- **Method:** ~200M small businesses globally with employees × ~10% in the
  35–45 owner-operator, already-profitable band × ~25% who have started
actively worrying about AI displacement and could afford ongoing advisory
  ≈ 5M — round numbers, labeled **ESTIMATE**.

## 10. Open items for Brett

1. **Region / trade** — Jack is staged as regional commercial-services;
confirm or swap the trade so the Homestead voice reads true to the buyers
   you actually want.
2. **The longevity gap** — do we build a case-study artifact (named outcomes)
to answer the wary operator's trust question, or does the method carry it
   until real engagements exist?
3. Remaining PROPOSED engine items (F3, P2, P3) — on change, walk §4's chips
   and re-render everything downstream.
4. No `customer-blueprint/CUSTOMER.md` exists — this profile is a hypothesis
staged as a person; the blueprint is how it earns evidence.
